What does Hits per Nine Innings - H/9 Mean?

A pitching statistic in baseball that measures the average amount of hits a pitcher gives up per nine innings. Hits per Nine Innings is calculated by dividing a pitchers hits allowed by the number of innings they've played then multiplying that number by nine to give you their H/9.

Sporting Charts explains Hits per Nine Innings - H/9

If a pitcher averages an H/9 of 10.2 and averages 6 innings pitched per game you could expect the pitcher to yield 6.8 hits in six innings of work. The top three lowest H/9 career numbers with a minimum of 1000 inning pitched (IP) are Nolan Ryan (6.55), Sandy Koufax (6.79), and Sid Fernandez (6.85).
