What does Small Forward Mean?

A position in basketball generally reserved for the smaller and more athletic forward. It may also be referred to as "the three".

Small forwards are usually the most versatile players on a basketball team. They are usually athletic enough to play from the perimeter and tall enough to play inside. Some players like Scottie Pippen or LeBron James can even assume the role of a point guard (referred to as "point forwards").

Some of the best small forwards in the history of the NBA include Larry Bird, John Havlicek, Elgin Baylor, Julius Erving, and LeBron James.
