End Around

What does End Around Mean?

This is a play in which a wide receiver starts on one side of the field and runs across to the opposite side. When crossing the backfield the quarterback hands the receiver the ball. Once the receiver has the ball he has two options: he can either continue running the ball to the outside, or he can throw the football to another receiver.

Sporting Charts explains End Around

This is considered to be a trick play in professional football. This type of play is not run very often, but when it is it can offer big results. When running this play there can also be a fake option, where the quarterback does not hand off the ball to the receiver and instead continues to run a passing or other type of running play.
