How often do NHL teams take advantage of power play opportunities? During the 2014-15 NHL season, the average power play converts at 18.51%. In the last 24 NHL seasons, this is close to the peak we saw during the 1992-93 season when 19.56% of power plays converted and is considerably better than the low of 15.61% that was seen during the 1997-98 season.
