Optimal NHL FanDuel Lineup - Dec. 16

Recently, for the first time in my life as an Edmonton Oilers fan, I actually cheered for the Calgary Flames. That was tough to admit and write. I was cheering for the Flames not because I was tired of the poor performances of the Oilers but because I needed Kari Ramo to get the win and the points for my FanDuel lineup.

The Flames and Ramo ended up winning the game and as a result but my FanDuel lineup into the money, which ended up being more than enough to wash away the guilt of cheering for my historic and provincial rivals.

Over the past few months, we have been producing our optimal NFL lineup each week, which has been a steady performer week to week. We have also been playing NHL FanDuel internally and decided that we should share some of our insights with you by way of our optimal NHL lineup, which we will be playing tonight.

So lets jump into our Optimal NHL FanDuel Lineup (50/50) for December 16, 2014:

Nhl -optimal -dec -16

Andrew Ladd - averaging 3.53 FanDuel points per game, Ladd is 39th among all NHL skaters in this category. He has been dominant at home leading the Jets with 12 points in 14 games. The Sabres are 25th in goals against overall and have done little on the road with just 19 goals - they are also coming into the second half of a back-to-back. We like Ladd here.

Matchup: At home vs. Buffalo Sabres

Kris Versteeg - coming in at 26th among all NHL skaters in FanDuel points per game is a value option at only $5,200. The Blackhawks are one of the best teams in the NHL and are even better at home with goal differential of +18 over 14 games.

Matchup: At home vs. the Minnesota Wild

Vladimir Tarasenko - there is only one other player this season (Tyler Seguin) more dominant in FanDuel than Tarasenko this season, who has put up an average of 4.98 FD points per game. He faces a Kings team who so far this year has been two different teams depending on whether they are home away - at home the Kings have a goal differential of +15 while away they are -3. The Blues are +17 at home. We like Tarasenko at home.

Matchup: At home vs. the Los Angeles Kings

Jakub Voracek -  the Edmonton Oilers might lead the NHL in the category of "we should have drafted that guy" and Jakub Voracek is on that list as he was drafted one spot after Sam Gagner (now playing in Arizona). Voracek has taking a huge step forward and is one of the best players in the game. He is currently averaging 4.83 FanDuel points per game, which is 6th best in the NHL. The last time he played Tampa he had a goal and assist and put up 8.40 FanDuel points. The Flyers are much better at home (0.643) than away (0.300) and with the consistency of Voracek we feel this is a strong play.

Matchup: At home vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning

Pavel Datsyuk - with an average of 4.36 FanDuel points per game, Datsyuk is 12th among all NHL skaters. He has scored 14 points in 11 games at home and faces off against the Blue Jackets who have the 28th ranked defense in the league . Datsyuk is a great play here.

Matchup: At home vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets

Sean Monahan - so far this season Monahan has put up 93.70 FanDuel points or 2.93 per game, which is 96th among all NHL skaters. At just $3,600 this is a great value play as he is averaging 20+ min per night at home and is facing a Rangers team with an average defense.

Matchup: At home vs. the New York Rangers

P.K. Subban - among all defenseman, Subban is 13th in FanDuel scoring on a per game basis with 2.81 - he is tied for the lead in points on the Canadiens. He faces off against the Hurricanes who are the 20th ranked defense but are considerably worse on the road with a goal differential of -18. This is a great matchup for P.K.

Matchup: At home vs. the Carolina Hurricanes

T.J. Brodie - Brodie is 8th among NHL defenseman in FanDuel production at 3.18 points per game. He is a great value at this level.

Matchup: At home vs. the New York Rangers

Ondrej Pavelec - as mentioned in the Ladd blurb, the Sabres are one of the worst teams in the NHL but are brutal on the road with just 19 goals and a goal differential of -30. Pavelec is in a perfect spot to have a low scoring result and the win.

Matchup: At home vs. Buffalo Sabres
