The NHL Twelve Days of Christmas

“One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day.” ~ Andy Rooney

Looking back, truth be told, my first love was hockey. Some would say it was true love.

At times, hockey is ecstasy if your team is on a winning streak, advancing to the next round or, for those fortunate enough, hoisting the Cup in the spring. But, with love, occasionally comes pain. And hockey can be equally cruel with every bitter defeat and sudden death.

Hockey lives between these extremes of ecstasy and pain. The true fan takes the good with the bad and recognizes that no true love is perfect. In fact, hockey is often far from it. And by Christmas 2014, this hockey season is no exception. Over the first part of the season, my true love has offered me many gifts – some thrilling, a few sad and disappointing, and others downright bizarre – not much different than the gifts awaiting you beneath your own tree.
