3-6-3 Double Play

What is 3-6-3 Double Play?

A type of double play that occurs when the ball is hit to the first baseman (3), who throws it to the shortstop (6) to get the runner out, with the ball being thrown back to the first baseman (3) to get the batter out. The first out is recorded as a 3-6 out.

Sporting Charts explains 3-6-3 Double Play

The runner is far more likely to reach second base before the batter reaches first base so the first baseman (3) needs to focus on getting the out at second before worrying about getting the out at first.
