What is Fastball?

In baseball, a fastball is the most frequent type of pitch thrown by a pitcher. The fastball is generally the highest velocity pitch in the game-it typically ranges in speed from the mid-80s to over 100 mph.

Sporting Charts explains Fastball

A pitcher who throws fastballs in the range of the high-90s to over 100 mph is usually labeled as a "power pitcher". The objective behind a fastball is to throw the ball faster than a batter can square up the bat to make contact. Different grips on the fastball can produce movement or deception, changing either the appearance or the angle of the ball's approach to the plate.

There are many different types of fastballs that modify the pitch in various ways. Some of them include the two and four-seam fastball, the cutter, and the split-finger fastball.
