Standing only about 315 feet from home plate, the Green Monster has become popular with right handed hitters since it was built in 1912. orginally made of wood. It was painted green in 1947 and then covered in hard plastic in 1974. Since it stands 37 feet high, it has turned a many would-be home runs into hard-hit doubles. Ted Williams, considered one of the best hitters ever, hit 248 career home runs at Fenway Park, most by any player and many were over the Green Monster.
