Ground Ball

What is Ground Ball?

A type of batted ball in which the ball bounces on the ground and/or rolls before being fielded by the defense.

Also referred to as a "Grounder."

Sporting Charts explains Ground Ball

Ground balls, when hit fair, ensure that the player can make a play on reaching base as they must be tagged out and can't be automatically put out by way of a caught ball as the ball has hit the ground. However, Ground Balls do offer the risk of double plays by the defense as they can fielded quickly before the batter or runners on base can make it to a base safely.
