What is Ground Into Double Play - GIDP?

A statistic in baseball that measures the times when a batter hits a ground ball that leads to a double play being executed by the defense without a fielding error on either of the putouts. On plays in which the batter hits into a double play both the Batter and the Pitcher will be awarded a Ground Into Double Play or GIDP on their stat line. 

Also referred to as a "GDP."

For a Ground Into Double Play to occur there has to be one or less outs before the batter hits or the inning will simply end witout a double play being executed.
