Ground Out - GO

What is Ground Out - GO?

A type of putout in which the batter hits a ground ball fair and before he is able to reach first base is successfully tagged out by the defense. Each time the batter is putout after hitting a ground ball, the batter and the pitcher on the play will receive an additional Ground Out or GO on their stat line.

Sporting Charts explains Ground Out - GO

Contact hitters often generate a lot of Ground Outs due to the increased number of balls they make contact with and put into play. Opposite of Ground Out is an Air Out, which occurs when the batter hits a fly ball that is successfully caught by a fielder before the ball touches the ground for an out.
