What is Single - 1B?

A type of base hit in which the batter safely reaches first base by hitting the ball fair and not being called out. If the hitter reaches first base by way of a fielding error or a fielders choice than the batter won't be awarded a single.

In baseball statistics and stats lines, singles will often be recorded under the 1B column.

The Single or 1B is the most common type of base hit in baseball.

Batters that are known for earning a lot of singles are referred to as Contact Hitters and or Slap Hitters and are generally known for their ability to position and range their hits as well as for being relatively fast runners.
