Suicide Squeeze

What is Suicide Squeeze?

A type of squeeze play, which is a sacrifice bunt with a runner on third, where the runner starts their run towards home plate the moment the pitcher begins their pitch even before the ball has left the pitchers hand. This is opposite of a Safety Squeeze where the runner waits to leave third base until the bunt has been hit.

Sporting Charts explains Suicide Squeeze

The Suicide Squeeze is the riskier type of a sacrifice bunt with a man on third as the runner is assuming that the bunt will come off successfully and that by getting a running start the play will be far more likely to succeed. The risk of this play is that if the attempted bunt is missed or placed poorly the runner from third will likely be put out either at home or back at third for a forced out.
