A violation called when an offensive player continues dribbling after letting the ball rest in one or both hands. The most common occurrence of this violation is when the ball handler lets his hand slide down below the ball while dribbling. This violation is also referred to as "palming".
Carrying typically happens so quickly that it's difficult for officials to ascertain whether or not the ball handler does it. Many people argue that superstars like Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson carried the ball often, but they usually got away with it because they were given the benefit of the doubt by NBA referees.
