Clear Path to the Basket Foul

What is Clear Path to the Basket Foul?

This occurs when a fast break starts in a team's own end (or backcourt), usually after the ball is stolen from the opposition. The foul is called when the player on a fast break is fouled when there is no other opposing player between the player and the basket to defend against an easy score.

Sporting Charts explains Clear Path to the Basket Foul

The player who commits the clear path foul is assessed a personal foul, and the team assessed a team foul.  The player who was fouled receives two free throws, and also retains possession of the ball after the free throws (via sideline).
