What is Off-the-Ball Foul?

This occurs when a player from the team not in possession of the ball, fouls an opposing player who is not in possession of the ball.  The violating player receives a personal foul and team foul, meanwhile the opposing team retains possession and either inbounds the ball from the sideline, or is assessed 2 free throws (if the team is over their team foul limit).

If an off-the-ball foul occurs in the final 2 minutes of a game, the fouled player is awarded two free throws and retains possession afterwards.
