Post Up

What is Post Up?

To establish your position at an area near the basket, usually just outside of the key. To post up, the player has his back to the basket, shielding his defender behind him with his body so that he can receive the pass with ease.

Upon receiving the ball from the post-up position, the player can either back down his defender to get closer to the basket or face up to try to beat the player off the dribble. There are a variety of post-up moves that a player can utilize such as a drop step, a hook shot, a turnaround fadeaway, or an up-and-under.
