The dubious title given to the football player who is selected last in the NFL Draft. The label was contrived by former NFL receiver Paul Salata in 1976, who flies the draftee to California for a roast, golf tournament, and trophy that depicts a player fumbling.
Players selected later in the draft generally face an uphill battle to be a full-time NFL player, but there have been a few recent Mr Irelevant's to have success. Jim Finn won a Super Bowl as the starting full back for the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. Kicker Ryan Succop has played several seasons in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs.
