What is Stuff Yards?

A statistic in football used to measure the number of yards lost as the result of a running play stopped before the line of scrimmage, known as a stuff. Stuffs occur when the defensive team is able to break through the offensive line and tackle the ball carrier before he is able to reach the line of scrimmage creating a loss in yards known as Stuff Yards.

Stuff Yards can be measured for both players and teams as a whole and depending on whether looking from a defensive or offensive perspective illustrate the effectiveness of a defense in breaking through the offensive line and creating a stuff for a loss of yards or an offensive line in preventing stuffs for lost yards by preventing defensive players from getting to the ball carrier.
