An offensive line strategy where a "pulling" lineman meets a defensive lineman at the line of scrimmage creating a wedge between the defensive player and two offensive linemen. This opens up a running path for the running back.

Sometimes referred to as a "pull" play

Sporting Charts explains Trap - football

Traps are often used to mix up the offensive attack and keep the defensive line guessing. If there is a mismatch, meaning the defensive line is dominating at the line of scrimmage, a pull is often used to beef up one part of the offensive line for a single running play. These types of plays are part of any NFL team's arsenal of trick plays. They keep the defense from getting too used to a specific offensive formation.
