Back Door Pass

What is Back Door Pass?

A type of pass made in hockey where the player makes a pass from behind the net to a teammate who is out in front of the net. The strategy of this play is to divert the attention of the goalie to behind the net where he has to watch the player with the puck in case of a wrap around while scorers out front can get into position to receive a pass before the goalie can become fully aware of the scorers are in front of the net.

Sporting Charts explains Back Door Pass

Wayne Gretzky made this type of pass famous as behind the net was known as his office and he'd make back door passes out front to teammates.
