A situation in hockey where one team has a greater number of players on the ice because the opposing team has a player or players are in the penalty box giving the team a scoring advantage.
Also known as a "Man Advantage."
A power play occurs when a team has a member or members in the penalty box, giving the other team a man advantage. A power play ends when the penalty, if it a minor infraction, ends or a goal is scored by the team with the advantage. A score while there is a double minor penalty will only cut the penalty in half while a major penalty will stay in effect. This can include a one or two man advantage depending on the number of players in the penalty box.
