What is Shutout - SO?

An event in hockey that occurs when a goaltender prevents the other team from scoring any goals during the game. This is the ultimate achievement for a goaltender during a game.

The record for the most shutouts in one season is held by George Hainsworth who had a total of 22 during the 1928–29 NHL season. In the event that a game is 0-0 after regulation and overtime and is headed into a shootout, both goaltenders will be awarded the shutout regardless of the number of goals and outcome of the shootout.
