This is the betting line for any given sporting event or other contest one can wager on. It is also known as the odds, points, money line or point spread.
The betting lines and such are researched by handicappers who use large troves of data to set the right line. For major sportsbooks and casinos, the goal is to create a line that attracts an equal amount of wagers on both sides. This limits the exposure of the sportsbook. Smaller operations may pay more attention to which games offer them the best chance to win, but typically, the bookmakers and bookies are always trying to take an equal amount of action on both sides of the line. Although a line is typically used to refer to any betting line, it is important that one understands the differences between the different types of lines before placing a bet.
