Ground Ball Percentage (GB%) is a pitching statistic that measures the percentage of balls batted into play off a pitcher that are classified as ground balls.

Pitching ground ball percentage leaders are those who allowed the highest percentage of ground balls against among all balls put into play against them.  Ground ball percentage leaders are most likely to be pitchers who throw a higher proportion of sinkers or other offspeed pitches, which are more likely to be “beat into the ground” by opposing batters. Those who lead the league in ground ball percentage are best served by having an above average infield defense playing against them, or for a team the effectively deploys shifts more often. Those who are allow the lowest percentage of ground balls against are not necessarily bad pitchers but most couple that pitching style with also striking out more batters and/or having a low home run to fly ball ratio.
