This is not the most meaningful statistic when judging a team’s offensive performance, as it could represent either a positive or negative aspect of a team’s total run scoring output. For example, a team that hits a lot of doubles could be a good hitting team overall, though it could also be indicative of a team that can hit a lot of doubles but does not have the ability to turn those doubles into home runs. As younger players develop and grow stronger they will often see their doubles eventually turn into more and more home runs.
