Since 1999 the National Football League has required kickers to use fresh, brand new balls (otherwise known as K-balls). It was thought that kickers were manipulating their kicking balls, inserting different pressured gas, using pressure cookers, microwaves, etc to make them go further. Since 1999 there is very little statistical proof that K balls have changed field goal efficiency or distance.
